On behalf of the Black Hawk PTO, we would like to welcome everyone back to school. PTO stands for Parent-Teacher Organization, consisting of parents and teachers working together to support and enrich all students. We support school staff, help promote student self-esteem, and assist in efforts to solve school needs through volunteering and funding. To learn more, review our Black Hawk PTO Guide.
The PTO is made up of several officers: Dawn Henkel and Renae Huffman, co-presidents; and Sheila Williams, secretary, and not to mention our wonderful school staff, parents and volunteers. So, who is a member? If you’re a father, mother, guardian, volunteer and/or a person who teaches or instructs at Black Hawk, then you are already a member.
PTO Meetings are bi-monthly from 6pm – 7pm in the Black Hawk Library:
September – Welcome Back, Principal Report, Officer Elections – Treasurer Open, Fall Festival
November – Principal Report
January – Principal Report, Multi-Cultural Night, BOSS Fun Run
April – End of Year Events (BOSS Fun Run, Student Showcase, 8th gr. Completion/Celebration, Teacher Brunch)
PTO Programs & Fundraising:
Our primary objective as a PTO is to provide our school with funds, programs, resources, and services that will enrich and maximize the education of every child and to benefit the school. To meet this important objective, we fundraise by collecting Box Tops and Tyson labels, volunteering at Culver's, Election day Bake Sale, as well as parent donations. 100% of the money raised goes back to Black Hawk. Here are a few programs that we sponsor and/or support: Open House, Teacher Appreciation, 8th Grade Completion & Ceremony, BOSS Fun Run and Family and Community Engagement Nights!
Become a Volunteer….Why YOU should get involved!
As you can see, we are a small and busy group. This is where you can come in! We need your help, and so do your child(ren). A special thanks to all of our volunteers from last year for all their hard work and dedication. Here at Black Hawk, we strive for excellence and what better way than to become involved today. We are in need of growth and are seeking volunteers to continue re-establishing the organization. The PTO is a team effort in which we cannot succeed on our own. Please come and join us at a meeting or by contacting the co-presidents.
