Statement from the Board of Education: MMSD's Commitment to Educational Excellence and Inclusion
As we navigate the evolving educational landscape, our unwavering focus remains on our students. The fundamental right to public education drives our mission to educate and support all students regardless of race, ethnicity, faith, home language, immigration status, disability, sexual orientation and gender identity. We remain steadfast in our responsibility to provide safe, non-discriminatory and welcoming learning environments here at MMSD, and all students are welcome!
Our commitment is reflected through several key principles. We create spaces where students can authentically express themselves while celebrating the diverse perspectives that enrich our school community. We actively protect the rights and dignity of every student and family and work diligently to remove barriers to full participation in school life. Through strategic resource allocation, we ensure equitable access to opportunities for all students, supporting their individual needs and potential. We stand united against all forms of discrimination, bias, and exclusion.
Our Board of Education’s resolutions reinforce the district’s commitment to support our immigrant, refugee and undocumented students (2017) and families and our LGBTQ+ students (2021). These policies reflect the core institutional values of dignity, respect and inclusion that guide our work. We will not waver in our commitment to providing all students who enter our doors with an inclusive education in a welcoming and supportive environment.
Our dedication to these principles remains firm as we work tirelessly to ensure that every student receives the education they deserve in an environment where they can thrive and succeed.
