During this time of year, it is important for all parents and students to understand MMSD’s policy around outdoor time. Past practice is to keep students inside if the wind chill is as cold as -10. Please reference the wind chill chart. If the wind chill is not -10, students will be expected to participate in outdoor recess, unless they have a documented medical condition that restricts them from doing so.. School administrators monitor the weather carefully before any outdoor time, including before school and recess, to ensure that we keep students safe. However, it is imperative that students come to school dressed suitably for extremely cold weather conditions. Please note that Black Hawk’s dress code policy does not allow students to wear jackets or blankets in classrooms or hallways unless they are entering or exiting the building. Students should wear sweaters/sweatshirts in class to stay warm.
